MERU UNIVERSITY HOSTEL RULES & REGULATIONS 2026

1. Eligibility & Allocation

• All students can apply for university accommodation.
• Priority during high demand goes to: New students, First-years, Students with physical challenges.
• Allocation is done on first-come-first-served basis after payment of Ksh 1,500.

2. Booking Procedure

• You must pay the required booking fee of Ksh 1,500 to secure your bed.
• Fill out the University Accommodation Form during online registration.
• Continuing students may be required to email details to: accommodation@mu.ac.ke
• The Ksh 1,500 booking fee is NON-REFUNDABLE and forms part of semester hostel fees.

3. Safety & Conduct

• Students must conduct themselves with maturity and respect at all times.
• Misplaced keys must be reported immediately. Replacement cost Ksh 500.
• Sharing rooms with unauthorized guests is strictly prohibited.
• Cooking in rooms is NOT allowed outside of designated kitchen areas.
• Excessive noise during quiet hours 10:00PM - 6:00AM is prohibited.
• The university is not liable for loss of personal property.

4. Prohibited Items

• Appliances like hot plates, electric coils, and unauthorized high-wattage heaters are banned.
• Alcohol, drugs, weapons, and flammable substances are strictly prohibited.
• Extension boxes must be approved by hostel management.

5. Damages & Vacating

• Any damage to university property will be charged to the occupant.
• Rooms must be vacated at the end of every semester/academic year.
• Students must participate in check-in and check-out inspections.
• The university reserves the right to re-allocate or evict students for breach of rules.
